Network Virtualization Lab

Network Virtualization Laboratory enables to do research on:

  • network slicing and end-to-end QoS
  • new solutions for nodes and links virtualization
  • performance isolation of resources of virtual nodes and links
  • comprehensive solutions for New Generation Networks

The laboratory is equipped with

  • multi-processor DPDK servers
  • highly specialized traffic generators/analysers

Servers enable the research and development of open tools for data plane, control plane as well as network management systems (e.g. Open vSwitch, OpenNFV) which have open access and which gain significant interest in Europe and throughout the world. Each server is equipped with a considerable number of 1 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s interfaces, thus enabling experiments for different test topologies. The laboratory is equipped with 3 highly specialized traffic generators/analysers (1 IXIA generator and 2 SPIRENT generators) which enable traffic generation and analysis for L1-L3 layers as well as the emulation of protocols for L4-L7 layers. Generators are equipped with 1 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s interfaces. The generators/analysers enables the emulation of protocols for OpenFlow programmable networks, segment routing, the emulation of OpenFlow switches and controllers, thus increasing the possibilities of testing the scalability of comprehensive solutions for New Generation Networks. The laboratory is also in possession of software licenses for testing network virtualization, IxVM IxNetwork. The laboratory may be easily extended with additional servers from server resources of other laboratories, e.g. SDN Lab.

National Institute of Telecommunications

    • 2 x 100 Gbps interfaces (MX card)
  • Spirent Avalanche Virtual software (virtual machines for video streaming testing, including adaptive streaming)
  • Attero hardware emulator (highly specialized network emulation tool)
    • 2x 1/10 interfaces
  • 4x QuantaMesh BMS T1048-LB9 (bare metal switches enabling the installation of open source operating system)
